Since some musical connections already existed between certain members of the trio DDK and GGRIL, the idea emerged to bring these two ensembles together—different in size and continent, yet close enough in practice—to imagine that such a meeting could give rise to a collective sonic experience, rich and unprecedented, both for the musicians and for the audience.

The collaborative process between DDK and GGRIL is like an amplified reflection, on a broader sonic territory, of what takes place within the trio’s own music-making. A three-voiced compositional experience intended for the Québécois ensemble, DDK (Demierre, Dörner, Kocher) works as much through juxtaposition as through superposition, in parallel, and from within the musical material itself. A shared concern unites the three musician-composers: working in close collaboration with the instrumentalists, taking GGRIL as raw material, shaped by each member’s individuality. This compositional process is intimately linked to the process of sound production, in which rehearsal time is essential, for it is there that sound literally comes into being and where the meeting between DDK’s compositional impulse and GGRIL’s sonic energy takes shape.

Des contacts musicaux existant déjà entre certains membres du trio DDK et du GGRIL, l’idée a surgi de mettre en présence ces deux ensembles, de tailles et de continents différents, mais de pratiques suffisamment proches, pour imaginer qu’une telle réunion puisse donner naissance à une expérience sonore collective, riche et inouïe, autant pour les musicien·ennes que pour le public.

Le processus de collaboration de DDK avec le GGRIL est comme le reflet amplifié, sur un territoire sonore plus étendu, de ce qui se joue au sein de la fabrication de la musique du trio. Une expérience de composition à trois voix à destination de l’ensemble québécois, DDK (Demierre, Dörner, Kocher) travaille autant en juxtaposition qu’en superposition, en parallèle, et à l’intérieur même de la matière musicale. Une même préoccupation réunit les trois musiciens-compositeurs, celle de travailler en collaboration étroite avec les instrumentistes, avec le GGRIL comme matière première, avec la personnalité de chacun·e. Un processus de composition intimement lié au processus de production des sons, où le temps de la répétition est essentiel, car c’est là que se joue l’apparition du son au sens propre et où prend forme la rencontre entre l’impulsion compositionnelle de DDK et l’énergie sonore du GGRIL.
