With New Born, his first album, Stefan Orins New Trio opens a new chapter in pianist and composer Stefan Orins’s musical journey.

Featuring Gauthier Dubuis on double bass and Tristan Orins on drums, the trio develops an original music in which composition and improvisation are in constant dialogue. Stefan Orins’s compositions provide the starting point for a music that is always evolving, leaving ample space for listening, freedom and interaction between the three musicians.

Here, no instrument is confined to an accompanying role: piano, double bass and drums work together to create a shared language made up of melodies, silences, tensions, rhythmic impulses and moments of suspension. The music can be intimate and lyrical, before gradually opening out into freer, more energetic spaces.

New Born evokes both the birth of a new band and the emergence of a new way of playing together.

Recorded in 2026, the album is the first document of this new musical adventure. Rooted in the aesthetics of contemporary European jazz, it also asserts a deeply personal identity, shaped by Stefan Orins’s long-standing experience in improvised music and by the musical connection shared by the trio’s three members.

Réuni autour de Gauthier Dubuis à la contrebasse et Tristan Orins à la batterie, le trio développe une musique originale où l’écriture et l’improvisation se rencontrent en permanence. Les compositions de Stefan Orins constituent le point de départ d’une musique en mouvement, qui laisse une large place à l’écoute, à la liberté et au dialogue entre les trois musiciens.

Ici, aucun instrument n’est réduit à un rôle d’accompagnement : piano, contrebasse et batterie construisent ensemble un langage commun, fait de mélodies, de silences, de tensions, d’élans rythmiques et de moments de suspension. La musique peut être intime et lyrique, puis s’ouvrir progressivement vers des espaces plus libres et plus énergiques.

New Born évoque autant la naissance d’un nouveau groupe que celle d’une nouvelle manière de jouer ensemble.

Enregistré en 2026, l’album est le premier témoignage de cette nouvelle aventure. Il s’inscrit dans une esthétique de jazz contemporain européen, tout en affirmant une identité profondément personnelle, nourrie par la longue expérience de Stefan Orins dans les musiques improvisées et par la complicité musicale qui unit les trois membres du trio.
